These muslims are actually part of a sect called sufi that is very western in thinking and very much down on the fundamental versions of Islam that lead to terrorisim. We should support them because they challange muslims to rethink radical beliefs. It also allows shows the muslim world that we aren't their enemies like Al queda has convinced them.
That being said I feel that the people behind this mosque just want the attention the controversy brings, as there are plenty of places for a mosque to be built that wouldn't offend so many people. But they have overcome all legal hurdles so there is no reason not to let them build it. And I hope that gay bar gets put in right next door so they might see what its like to have their senseibilities offended.
