Could GT5 flop? (as in do disappointing sales)

in any case, GT4 sold much less, especially if you compare it to the install base, was it the promise of GT5 that reduced the sales?

it was a second one in the series and and close to GT3 in quality and also that times racers  had competition from the nFS underground  success
