Absolutely. I guess they just wanted to overkill it. 
I'm sure it could find a very small niche, TV is still the favourite tech toy of most people, but if they make people think it sucks they can forget even that small niche. Sony, Samsung and whatever else wanting to sell this tech to early adopters will better care by themselves for its presentation, it's obvious that at the current price and early stage of actual tech use, the market is still too little and they can't count on resellers to dedicate personnel to it.
