There are a grand total of 9 instances of an incumbent failing to get re-elected, and Obama's position can only possibly compare to that of Grover Cleveland, if we're looking at loser incumbents, where Cleveland's anti-tariff legislation was just so hotly opposed that they ran him out.

But the Republicans are going to eviscerate themselves in 2012. 2010 is going to be a decent year for them, 2016 may be better, but 2012 you're going to see them implode, because the rift between the screaming libertarians and the neo-cons is going to be spectacular, when the Republican party that invented the War on Terror comes face to face with the Republican party that claims to care about balanced budgets. It's not going to be pretty, all the more so since the issue of pulling out of Afghanistan will be fresh on everyone's minds at the time (if Obama has the guts to do the 2011 pullout as planned)

Think of 1968 and the Democrats. When the Democrats that invented the Vietnam War clashed with the Democrats that called for human and civil rights. Just less overt violence, but tinted with our 24-hour cable news constant spin. It'll be a massacre.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
