None taken. As for the hype and marketing, yes the Kinect is being lauded because MS is supporting a lot of media by buying up ad space on their site, while marketing for the Sony Move has been next to nil. This transfers on down to the consumers who are constantly bombarded with positive press about the Kinect and discuss as such. As for expenses, both will be about $150 if more than 1 player is playing. The Move will be cheaper if it is only one person at the $99.99 starter kit price, but to fully play the Kinect with an Xbox Live Gold membership, then the price is at least $180 (assuming Kinect is priced around $129.99). With my posts on costs, I was just trying to clarify a lot of confusion and disinformation being spread around by individuals who jump into conversation without doing their homework. |
You're missing the biggest argument of the price factor. Do you honestly believe that people who purchased a Nintendo Wii ran out and just gobbled up accessories? I don't. Not for a second. I would wager that most people hedge their bets a tad and buy the system and maybe a game. Once they 'like' or 'love' their system then they will continue to buy more and more accessories for that system.
The best thing about Move (To me) is that I can spend $100 and determine if there is anything there that I like. With Kinect I have to drop an additional $50 for possibly even LESS functionality across the board and all I get is a 'Camera'. If I really like the Move from it's initial samplings, Maybe I run out an purchase a 2nd or 3rd controller. Who knows.
The Kinect is too highly priced for casuals, period. Why would you purchase an Xbox 360 Kinect ($300 minimum for bare bones sytem) (As a casual) over a Wii when the Wii has clear dominance in popularity/success/price points/ brand name and costs significantly less? Move runs into the same thing. ($400) is the minimum PS3 Basic Move Entry point.
The difference is, Move is more appealing to current PS3 owners, which bodes well for sales to exisiting owners of the system.
