But Jews came there long before the Arabs, and they're there now. And the First Jewish temple was built more than a thousand years before the Dome, and they still have the Western Wall which is a remnant of the Second Temple. And hopefully some day a full temple will be rebuilt. |
You're missing the point. I said LONGER .... I think that is important when someone is trying to state how obvious it is that Jews have a legitimate claim above all else. That's stupid and irrelavent.
Arabs have lived there longer and were a majority the day modern Israel was created.
As for the temple, huh, one remaining wall doesn't mean anything. I'm sure there is a rock somewhere with the Hebrew equivalent of 'so and so was here' from a ancient Jewish persion, but that doesn't mean the house standing on it is owned by that person.
The Dome of the Rock has stood entact for FAR longer than both Jewish temples combined.
Jews lost the area to the romans. Within 100 years Arabs were the Majority population. by late 600AD, Muslims were the majority of the population. Even when Christian Crusaders ruled the city, Arabs were still the majority, and I'm not talking 55% or some ish, we're talking 85-90% here.
When Christian Crusaders were using Temple Mount/Dome of Rock as a stable and trash heap, it was Arabs/Muslims who cleaned house and returned it to it sanctuary and allowed Jews/Muslims back to their place of worships.
When Christian hoardes where killing anyone who didn't follow there exact faith, it was Muslim lands that Jews (as well as others) fled to for prosperity, peace, and just treatment. Study their history, golden age of intelect and philosphy was in Muslim controlled Spain.
It wasn't until the 1900's and European Jewish plans to steal a homeland that Muslims and Jews started to fight in that region. In 1948, Jews only legally owned about 23% of the land that was given to them by the mandate. The rest was owned by Arabs. In 1948, Jews were still at best 45% of the entire population and less than half of those were actually born in that region. Most were born in Europe.
But, I've strayed into arguments I hate, the ones that focus on the past. As for the present and future, Isreal exists and should continue to exist. A divided Palestinian state is not good for the Palestinians or Israelis, therefore a democratic and free Israel over the entire region with equal treatment to everyone is the overall best answer.
