I agree with you regarding Pachter. I think he's got quite a personality to him and his involvement on the Bonus Round and Pach Attack are probably the best things coming from GameTrailers in the last year or so. A lot of people tend to hate his predictions but few realize that he's coming from the financial side of the gaming industry, not "what pleases gamers". I find it great that he's sharing the view of the other side of the gaming industry. When both parties understand each other better I believe we'll all gain from it.
I think a lot of the hate he garners comes from his predictions on new pricing models and a lot of gamers feel like he's giving ideas to companies to gouge gamers for more money. Many fail to see that he's not coming up with these ideas and he's actually hinting at what companies are experimenting with behind the scenes as he does have the inside tip on these sorts of things.
