Kinect can achieve 1:1 tracking - Dance Central dev

MTV says motion reading is 'like you're in a mirror'

MTV/Harmonix has given its view on the debate surrounding Kinect's supposed latency - claiming that the Microsoft device can achieve true 1:1 tracking.

The studio has created Dance Central for the device - a title CVG found to be impressively responsive (if excruciating) during a recent playthrough.

Early reports have pointed to fellow motion control PlayStation Move achieving closer to 1:1 tracking, with Kinect slightly less reponsive.

However, MTV/Harmonix project lead Kasoon Crooker told the latest issue of Edge magazine:

"Dance Central actually is 1:1. You're dancing, in realtime, with the character, following his or her movements as if you're in a mirror.

"If you perform a move correctly, the character's body lights up and your surroundings change. If you perform a move incorrectly, the character will turn red."

The quotes come as part of Edge 218's ten-page Kinect spectacular. The new magazine is with subscribers now and will be in stores tomorrow. Buy your copy of Edge and have it delivered to your door.
