Exactly the same.

Minus churches... more or less anyway.

And probably a lot less little children traumatized and scarred for life..

Just sayin'

If your reffering to pedophillia.  It's actually less common in the priesthood then it is in the general population.

It would still be a lot less... or do you disagree with my statement?

Well of coruse I do.

It's far less common in churches then it is in the regular population.  This means one of two things.

1) Churches attract less pedophiles then everyday life.

2) Churches cause less pedophiles then everyday life.

If you believe in 1.  The answer is there would be just as much traumitized children.

If you believe in 2.  The answer is there would be MORE traumitized children.

There is no way with religion there would be less traumitized chidlren based on the facts.

Chances are however... it's number 1.

Even if it was 1 child affected by the church, I would consider that "a lot" - apparently you have different views... o.0

Yeah... it's called common sense.

If religion didn't exist.  Those pedophiles still would... they just wouldn't be priests.

It's like saying the yankees are responsible for a bunch of deaths because a serial killer was a Janitor at their stadium.

He would of been a serial killer no matter his job.

Your example about janitor being a serial killer isnt comparable to the priest having a relation of power over children particularly in the orphanages in the 60-70. The janitor would probably be a serial killer nonetheless since a Janitor job doesnt usually trigger agressivity or lust for killing. The same thing couldnt be said of an army veteran who become a serial killer. Same thing apply to the orphanage pedophile priest, he wouldnt necessarily be pedophile if he wouldnt be priest in an orphanage. Maybe he would but not neccessarily.

Its a well known fact in psychology (its not common sense it seems) that environment play a major role in the development of mental problems. A funny extreme example:  if you are tomorrow taken prisoner and put in total seclusion for 5 years. Chances are that you would develop mental problem. Would you had mental problem anyway, probably not.

Between, the situation with priests and pedophilia was very bad 40-50 years ago. The percentage of pedophile priest was way higher than the percentage of pedophile in the general population. This is why many people associate pedophilia with priesthood. It doesnt came out of nowhere...

And... your completely wrong.  The percentage of pedohplies in teh priesthood was never way higher then the percentage of pedophiles in the general population.

Again it's lower.  That's what the research shows.

So... you are completley off base and misinformed.

Also pedophillia is something that is caused at a very early age... by the time someone would be old enough to be a priest said behevaior will have already manifested.

Additionally research seems there is a heavy biological component involved.

People don't just become pedophiles.  They have to be biologically receptive and also have something else trigger it... before or during their sexual development.

30 year old people don't magically become pedophiles.  Once you hit sexual maturity you are either  a pedophile or you aren't.

I think you need to do some more studying of Psychology.

I mean heck... teachers have power over children... parents too.  Do you think Parenthood turns people into pedophiles?
