My guess is the flashing is interfering with the Kinect. We can't tell if the Move has the same problem because nobody cares. I mean... given that we see little coverage on the Move.

Anyhow, is Kinect being released in Japan for the Holidays?

why bring PSmove in this thread?

What does PSmove have anything to do with Kinect issue discussion? so what if PSmove isn't getting much attention? IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT KINECT IS FLAWED.

BTW this is already on VGC news front page.

PS Move also uses a camera. So perhaps tons of flashing lights could interfere as well.

Obviously a room with tons of nonstop flashing lights is not the enviornment the Kinect is intended to be used.

here are no flashing lights, and from 4:25 it doesn't work so well either.

and i don't see why move is being discussed either.

For some reason it bugged out there, but it seems to work great for the most part. Its new technology, I don't expect perfection. I struggle with my god damn Wiimote all the time.

I mentioned Move because it also uses the camera. Perhaps the tons of flashing could interfere with the camera as well.

perhaps shmerhaps.

here is a video of some sneaky Germans trying to distract Move with a flashlight directly into the camera and they fail!

it's right at the start in the haircutting game

Not quite the same as tons of flashing lights engulfing the people playing.

But the hair cutting game isn't even tracking the people. It just follows that ball on the Wiimote Movemote.

that's not completely true, unlike the Kinect the Move also Has a Magnetic field directional sensor in the Move controller, thus to eliminate quite a bit of external interference input, because the Magnetic field sensor in use also act's as a compass:

example:

The Move configuration  The advantage here is that you don't need to be pointing at the screen to get an XYZ reading, not to mention the XYZ reading is more accurate and absolute than Wiimote 's method. The disadvantage, one would think, is how do you do pointing and orientation?  The Move's sensors can track even faster motions than the Wiimote . What little M drifts in the yaw axis, Move will have that covered via the magnetometer, therefore it doesn't need an IR bar.

Move doesn't need a sensor bar to do pointing. Tilting up and down doesn't need a sensor bar since it can just use gravity as an absolute. Yaw left and right can stay in check thanks to the magnetometer, which detects the earth's magnetic field.

though if the lighting in the room is pitch black the position of the Move would in effect be static due to no light, but that's if there is no light..lol
