The only reason it wasn't very well received and probably why you didn't like it...is because its not beginner freindly. If you run are just starting to play the game, an experienced player will flat out demolish you. And not just beat you...but beat you with style, embarass you as well as taunt at the end.

A lot of people were turned off by this but it was the right evolution for the series. Sales wise, turning off potential customers isn't smart though, and hence why people see it as a failure.

However I have yet to meet a street fighter pro that doesn't think SF3::3rd strike is by far the most balanced and deepest 2D fighter ever made.

I'm fine with the gameplay/competition. I still play SF2:T on ggpo and get whooped often if I decide to play against randoms when my friend isn't around. I think it really was just the whole feel to the game, mainly the characters. Then again I'm looking at it from a nostalgia view rather than looking at the balance part.

I still like the game, though I rarely play it at all since me and my friend still prefer SF2:T and I play SSFIV often (have it on right now :x )

I understand. If you didn't play it as much as other games in the series youd have very little nostalgia...And I agree, the style was different. But I remember saying "finally SF is evolving visually and character wise" when it came out. All SF up to that point looked the same.

What I find with other fighters...SF2, Alpha, KOF...when I play with freinds, we will learn each others tactics pretty fast and then it becomes mu buddies Honda VS my Sagat, or my Guile vs another buddies Ken over and over. We played 100s of matches together and we all know what works and what doesn't against each other.

The reason why SF3 stuck with us a little more than other SF games is because we were able to keep evolving while we were playing. It wasn't as predictable... I found that I can win against friends using Alex, Urien, Ryu, Ken, Remi, Ibuki, Chun li, Akuma. It seemed like each mach could go either way and was a lot more unpredictable.
