Frankly, you're taking the same view as pirates. That just because a game is on a 'handheld', or 'not a console game', its acceptable to consider it a lesser game and not have to buy it (or in your case, wait till it hits the bargain bin). Even if it had just as much time put into its development as a console title. Which Dragon Quest IX clearly did.
I really wonder when this prejudice towards handheld games started. Back in the Game Boy days, handheld gaming was considered something treasured and unique. And even today, some games that are hold-overs from that time period like Pokemon, Golden Sun or Zelda still get hyped and obsessed over. But ever since the invention of FMVs and the gaming media, it seems like the bulk of handheld games are automatically 'inferior' to console games by default. And why? Simply because of graphics? It certainly can't because of things like gameplay and content, as handheld games have had some of the best games of this gen (and every gen).
And I'd just like to point out, the main Pokemon titles have always been handheld games.
