Can someone here explain to me why I'm required to help someone if they need help? Let's just assume he wasn't on the clock and being paid.

Why is this man "required" to give aid to anyone if he isn't being rewarded for it?

Its called human decency and utilizing the medical training you have been taught. That is why medical officials take an oath to always help if possible. Given the info we know, it seems to be entirely possible that these two had limited EMT medical training and should have at least taken a look to see what they could do. The reward is seeing that person get up and live. Your statements really define a poor attitude towards life and humanity in general.

So then... you agree that all docotrs should be forced to work for free or even at cost to them to save someones life?

He isn't asking "Why should help."  He's asking "Why should there be a law that forces someone to help."
