I think you don’t understand ...

In the Qur’an and in the Hadiths it is mandated that individuals who follow Islam must dress modestly, and it is (more or less) in reference to individuals not showing off their material wealth. These passages are misinterpreted, misrepresented and abused in order to force women to cover the entirety of their body. The burka is very symbolic in a culture which blames victims of sexual abuse (regardless of age) of being seductresses, and has stoned these women for adultery even if they’re violently raped.

Protecting the burka under religious freedom is only slightly better than protecting a priest’s right to abuse alter-boys under religious freedom.
 

Nope I think your misunderstanding something here..I have seen countless arguments back and forth about what it says in the Qur'an vs. what is done today...and it will keep going too. IF the french really wanted to stop the 'abuse' of women then they should have made it illegal to force them to wear it..what about those who 'choose' to wear it? Their rights are taken away by this. What next? Goths? EMo's? Gays? Trans? Passing a legislatiion such as this is a really poor method and it actually creates oppression. I think people have this issue of adding anything related to Muslims to dumb ass extremists in the middle east. There are plenty of great open minded Muslims who actually choose to wear the burka. I'm sure for the French or even other nations there are better things that require thier attention like economy. And as for your last sentence, really? Sounded a lot like those guys in Kansas who scream, soldiers who fight for their nation are driven by devils! Not being able to tolerate ones rights just becase they are in the monority creates mistrust, panic, inequality and most of all a pathetic excuse for a country....that's no better than priests from Western nations going to Africa to preach how Gays eat 'poo poo' (true story, check on youtube) and should be killed as their ways do not match the ways of the society.At the end of the  day, horrible horrible move by the French (well some of them at least) no matter how one may spin it...

and btw to those who keep ranting baout 'immigrants' there are plenty of Western born citizens who wear the burka as well..just saying
