BREAKING NEWS:

The NHL has rejected the Kovalchuck deal, saying ti goes against the salary cap. http://tsn.ca/nhl/

There are interesting blogs on hockeybuzz saying uncle lou set it up to get rejected to highlight the flaws in the CBA.

I don't subscribe to that but it is an interesting take.

Please NHL try to be more professional

Just curious how did the HawksHossa deal happen if this one was denied?

The Kovalchuk deal is the height of cap-circumvention though. In the final 5 years he gets paid 550 per season.  Hossa gets 1million for his final 4.

I wouldn't believe it either, I heard that the team could be fined, and potentially lose cap space.

Everyone already knew they were ridiculous, Lou did not have to do it.

And like I said earlier the new cap space can go to Turco, that'd fix their goaltending ... just not for the playoffs. :P

BTW there's a link with a table better visualizing how extreme Kovalchuk's deal was.
