Will sell well, but it's not enough in my opinion.

Good for profit, but without doubt now (at least in my mind), the PS3 will at some point have sold more units than the Xbox 360.

this news further confirms this in your mind?

btw... at what point?

Yes, this, in terms of WW sales is game set and match in my mind.

- The 360 is a year older, is seen as less future proof and has less price cuts left in it.

- The PS3 is seen as more future proof, and still has nearly $200 to lose before it hits the PS2 prices of today.

Microsoft are going for profit now in my mind, and they will still be able to hold it in there for a year or more in terms of sales. But the PS3 just has a longer future now to me.

I see the PS3 overtaking 360 sales once the new Xbox is launched though, not this generation.

I have a bias (along with basically everyone), and could be wrong, but it's just what I think now.

ok... imo it will be of zero consequence at that point.  I dont disagree with you on the timing... it may happen, but I will be shrugging my shoulders and saying "so what"...along with most of the rest of the planet.

True, but to be honest most of the world doesn't give a toss about console sales at all :)

This news is actually good for both MS and Sony in a way:

Sony - Can still remain very competitive, no need to drop the price, can make profit, PS3 seems to have a long enough future ahead of it.

Microsoft - Should still sell more units than the PS3 this generation, allows (well at least I expect so) for larger profits to be made - which will help cover for new Xbox costs, and also new consumers are introduced to Xbox.

The only people losing out here are current 360 owners wanting the device.
