I feel bad for him but I feel so much worse for the woman.  Put yourself in her shoes, how would you feel if you loved someone for 10 years and they kept you around to use you yet didn't value you enough to marry you.  Furthermore, they try to marry your child.  And then you look around and see all your friends and family finding men who actually want to marry them.  You'd probably feel like a worthless piece of trash.

I don't think anyone should be forced to get married and I truly hope that this guy finds happiness in the future, but he should strongly consider taking other peoples' feelings into consideration.

It's her fault for not dumping his ass. It was obvious that he didn't want to marry her. What was she expecting? If anyone's to blame for her feeling like a "wothless piece of trash" it's herself.

I pretty much agree with Garvey's view.

How is it not her fault??? She should (wo)man up and take responsability for her actions! If you allow someone abuse you when you have the possibility to not do that than you're just as musch at fault, if not even more so, than the abuser. If marriage was so important to her she shoud've been more assertive and given him an ultimatum. If he didn't comply she should've dumped him and moved on. She didn't, she allowed herself to be his doormat so she has no right to complain. She shouldn't blame the guy for being who he was, but instead blame herself for expecting him to be someone he was not and for not being able to move on when it was clear that he was not giving her what she wanted. Women should take responsability when they're at fault.
