and devs still aren't used to developing on PS3 AS THEY ARE ON THEIR old PC architecture |
Well the cell has it's advantages, but it cannot wipe away all its disadvantages. The only thing the PS3 has over PC's is possibly the cell. Which I am a fan of. But the PS3, has flaws in the design as you're finding out here. The ps3 uses an outdated modified 7800gtx chip, right after release a much much faster 8800 gtx was released for PC's with much faster then those released now. The ram in the ps3 is just low, with 512mb. Compared to 2-4gb's in computers sold now adays. with more with enthusiast.
Unless you're saying, that Crytek, is a much much much better developer programming wise when it comes to graphics than say, Kojima Productions or Naughty dog.
You can make up some shortcomings because PC's are like a fruitcake and they're all different so they are not optimized. And the cell has benefits. But if you need more ram, you just need more ram.
