The child won't have a harder life, maybe a tougher time in school if he lets the teasing get to him but a good education and caring parents will help him out a lot. He'll be much better off than being bounced from a foster family to another until he reaches 18 and is left on his own.
Also, maybe it's my Canadian perspective that skews my opinion here but once out of high school, I don't see having two guys or two girls as parents being a problem at all.
