Someone forgets how the Vietnam war ended.

Really, the two scenarios were pretty much identical, a Communist north fighting against a psuedo-democratic south, where in both cases the north had the early advantage in terms of human and military development. The difference mainly is that South Korea got a much stronger international commitment, and their government gained a mantle of competence, and lived long enough to transition to real democracy. South Vietnam had neither.
