Most libertarians, liberals and conservatives support the removal of arbitrary barriers to success in order to promote equality of opportunity. Most progressives and socialists believe in the introduction of arbitrary barriers to success in order to promote equality of outcomes.
When you eliminate the ultra-rare outliers, outcomes in most areas in life follow a series of rational rules that (if understood) lead to a person’s success; and the rules generally punish inaction and instant gratification and reward action and self discipline. Of every person I have met who blames their poor outcomes on "the system" I have met several more who had worse opportunities who are more successful than them because they made decisions and worked hard to achieve their success.
