I've already said roughly where Tegra's graphics power lies. It will be much more capable than the 3DS if it's based on Tegra, but battery life will be a lot less.

You sure about that? We still don't know what is actually in the 3DS yet we know it's putting out great visuals. If Tegra really is Geforce 6 level then I'd imagine it'd produce graphics close to the 3DS.

The 3DS looks closer to the Gamecube to me; that's 2001-level tech based on AMD's R100. Tegra is three years newer.
I suppose it depends on process node and power consumption though. Nintendo will choose a less capable chip (for cost reasons) and downclock it (for power reasons) compared to Sony because that's been their design philosophy.
I'd assume that, like DS versus PSP, the 3DS will be $100 cheaper and have double the battery life of the PSP2. And part of that difference will come from the graphics chip.

GameCube could do soft/self shadowing, normal mapping, specular highlights and subsurface scattering? News to me. ;)
The GPU core in 3DS is based on DMP's PICA chip, which dates back to 2006 as the first iteration btw. I'm not sure why you're using ATi chips to try and give a timeline versus Tegra?

you forgot fur shading =P but the 3DS can easily outdo cube or wii on effects in the long run.
