PS3 player here. Haven't had any major lag in ages. Been running smooth for a long while now which is great cause I still love this game : p
Still don't see much reason to play as Assault, besides the AN-Akban/Smoke grenades : /
As for snipers, they really never bothered me much. The only time i hate them is when they're on my team...
