To my understanding an ad-hominem is a discredit of ones opinion based on former misconducts, so if he said "your arguments are weak, because you are were a drunk 5 years ago", then it would be an ad-hominem.

That the argumentation structure with extreme analogies ,although quite common, is a very very weak and ultimately cheap and valueless one is out of the question (see Godwin's law - same system). Calling that "childish and immature" can be seen as an attack, but I don't think it had a personal dimension to it, I understood it as venting the frustration, that people still try to go with that stuff.
