When corporations have to much power, they abuse it. When governments have to much power, they abuse it (almost every time they abuse it worse).

Its true that both government and businesses can become corrupt with power, but it is much better to give power to a democratic government than to a private business because the government is held accountable by the people through elections, whereas a business is not.

A democratic government is not able to mistreat its citizens, which is why in all areas of this type of government you will see politicians and officials pandering to the populations will, from city officials putting in the driveway in front of your house in the way you want it to presidents promising what the people want.

Businesses are not held accountable.  They are able to bribe and force others to follow their whim.  BP is a great example of this, they broke common sense safety standards that led to the Gulf Oil Spill and were involved in getting a terrorist released so they can obtain drilling rights in Libya.  Worse, you cannot boycott a major business like BP like you can some some smaller businesses (even though that generally doesn't work anyway).  No matter what consumers do to BP, they will be making the same profits as long as there is a market demand for oil.

If you prefer a world where businesses have all the power and are not held accountable, then you are crazy.

In my post I said I don't want either to have that much power. Everyone talks about Bush relaxing the standards for drilling, but BP got hundreds of wavers from those standards. They didn't even have to meet them. Why? Because they are the oil provider for the federal government.

You can blame BP (and they deserve it), but if you don't blame Washington just as much for this problem, your crazy.

And sorry, but I 100% disagree with your views. Obama is doing a horrible job, but he gets to keep doing that job for 2.5 more years, baring him doing anything illegal. If my grocery store starts selling poor quality food, I can replace them in an instant.

I buy my gas from Shell. if Shell does something I don't like, I can buy gas from Exxon. In the corporate world, I have complete choices every day of where 100% of my efforts go. In the government world, I have a very small choice once every 2, 4, 6 years where my efforts go.

I take choice any day.
