I agree with Sarkozy when he says "The veil hurts the dignity of women", but in that case don't ban the burka. All that does is take away a woman's right to wear the religious clothing of her choice... But that's exactly the point, her choice.

Many Muslim women don't have the choice, they are forced to wear the burka by male relatives or husband. If you want to ban something, then ban people from forcing others to wear religious clothing.

Forcing women to not wear the burka would be just as bad as those forcing those same women to wear the burka.

Not sure my idea would have much effect though.


I agree with your sentiments. It's a positive effort at cultural change, but ultimately its means stray too far from what is acceptable.

 

Oddly reminiscent of the Arizona immigration law. Right idea, but questionable execution.
