I'm not a fan of the various veils worn by Muslim women but this seems the wrong approach to me.

Like a fair number of Europeans (so far as I'm aware) I want a soceity where the state and legal laws take precedence over religous beliefs as the standards for behaviour, but this is a very simplistic approach to a thorny issue.

What angle (in your view) would be more approriate to approach this?

How about an approach where we aren't allowed to tell people what they can or can't wear just because we don't like it?

Besides, if people really want to hide their face they will find a way to do it.

It wouldn't work asking them to remove their Burka for the interest of THEIR country. Clearly they don't care that 82% of France says that all garments covering the face should be banned. If people want to walk around with an umberella in front of them fine.....thats their choice.
