if you had the ylod and didnt reball it youll get it again i doesnt matter if you re applied the TP also i think the new models 40gb and up used a silver based TP unlike the 20 60 and 80gb old fats

I don't think he meant that he had YLOD and after that he didn't experience it anymore. Isn't YLOD permanent, without that reballing stuff? I presume he is talking about he's second PS3 now?...erm...presumptions, presumptions...

Sorry I should have been more clear. My first ps3 died and the one I have now is a Sony refurb. I'd like to keep this one working.

There are other methods to saving your PS3 after the YLOD.  I used one on mine.  I also replaced the thermal paste.  As what the OP said is true.  The paste on the CPU was all dried up and the paste on the GPU was getting there.

I've said it before, I've got my fan running at top speed all the time now.  The system is loud but it doesn't get hot at all.  Some people said it would only last me a few weeks, well it's been 2 months and counting.

And in case you're wondering how I fixed the YLOD, I baked the motherboard...craziest idea ever, but it worked.
