I doubt many will care or notice... this game will fail dismally imo.

Fail dismally?
You do know that Final Fantasy XI is more successful than any FF game right? Including VII.

FFXI was pretty huge success indeed. Here is proof of that. 117 milj revenue last year and it is pretty old game. No wonder that they made XIV also online.

in kowenicki's defense - i'm pretty sure he meant the game will fail on consoles. it's cool and all that this game will be on the ps3 but let's face the facts....a vast majority of the players will be on the PC.
|
that is what i meant.. MMO = PC as far as I am concerned.

This is true, but FF has quite a vast audience on every console, so whichever will get its version of FFXIV will make a fair amount of users happy.
And MS doesn't cut a nice figure being greedy on games that for their very nature (true for any massive multiplayer online game with persistent worlds, not necessarily role playing) put the bulk or even the whole of online resources costs on the publishers' shoulders and that normally don't require any extra service from MS (or any other 3rd party for what matters) unless developers and publishers find it attractive to hire MS instead of providing them themselves.
