anybody remember that test a while back on ps3 temperature experimentation?
Here it is:
"In three rounds of testing, separate PS3s were subjected to 108 hours of game play and Blu-ray movies in different environments. The locations were a standard living room, the back of a freezer van, and the inside of a hot sauna–the screen and controllers were routed outside of the freezer van and sauna for the duration of the testing.
In living room testing, the only glitch reported for the console in 108 hours was a vibration in the disc tray. This apparently only lasted 20 seconds during the 12th hour of testing, with no other incidents reported. In the freezer test, the temperature was started at 50 degrees Fahrenheit and reduced to 0 degrees during the 108 hours. Except for sluggish behavior at 0 degrees and condensation on the video cord causing a video blackout, the console kept on running. In the sauna test, the temperature was started at 100 degrees and moved up to 120 during the last 24 hours of the test. Amazingly, the only reported incidents during the sauna test was a burning smell at hour 64 and a very hot console at the the end of the test. Otherwise, the PS3 console operated normally.
It sure must be nice to have that kind of disposable income to risk utter destruction of several PS3s. Can’t say I’m willing to repeat these tests myself. I’ll just try and kill gaming consoles the old fashioned way by playing them until they break."
