He's making a bad generalization, I love them, maybe the best genre in gaming. The problem is, games just have bad story lines and no one does them right anymore like FF6/7/8/9/10. They abandon what they know we US gamers love, and than they are confused why we don't like their new work? Well f***, try making it more like your older games.
Is it to much to ask for good graphics with a great story and fantastic turn based gameplay? I don't think so.
BTW, FF13 isn't turn based. That's not "turn based".
