The nation would need to either have a major terrorist attack (and one that's clearly branded as Obama's fault, and not one he can capitalize on like Bush did with 9/11), or a further (noticeable) economic collapse, or the Democratic party would need to fracture
These are the only ways Obama can lose. The list of defeated US presidential incumbents is a short one, and always entails either a fluke shift in the landscape (Taft, HW Bush), a horrible policy foul-up (Adams, Cleveland, Harrison, Ford), or some major national disaster (Van Buren, Carter, Hoover)
