will you still vote?  even though you have legged it to NZ?  You are still allowed to I believe?

Yea, I will still be a US Citizen, so I can vote. I won't be able to vote in NZ until I become a Citizen (long process). NZ and the US both allow dual citizenship, so I will always be able to vote in the US as long as I don't give up my US citizenship, and I have no plans to do so.

If I became rich, I might, because for every dollar over $94,000 US you earn, you pay taxes in both countries. I won't be making that much money. If one day I am making $200,000 US and have no plans of coming back, I might look into giving it up.

I have a client that moved to NZ last year... any income he receives from the UK into NZ is free of any tax for the first 5 years...   dont know if that is useful to you or if it works from the US.

So we have left his assets in the UK for now and will drip them across as the NZ dollar weakens... its reasonably strong right now.  he loves it by the way.... but then he is 60 !      Says it reminds him of England as it used to be.

Funny, when people ask me how NZ was, the best response I can give is "It's how the US should be". People are nice, no crime, everyone helps everyone. The feeling of community is amazing. I guess it's the mentality you get being a relatively small number of people living on some islands in the south pacific. You hear about the rest of the world, but that's them. Everyone here is us.

I like that... a lot. Oh, and next month I will be 41, so I am not that far behind him ;)

Oh, and as far as I know, the US does not give you a 5 year window, but I didn't look that far. I just saw the cap was more then I make, and I stopping looking into it.
