Simple logic Sales of Blu-Ray disks are generally 2* that of HD-DVD lets see If i wanted to make lotts of money both similar to manufacture. Why look i sell 2* the number if i distribuit on Blu-ray. Really obvious.
Better still if it's a really popular movie and you know you can sell over 20K distribuit on both formats the setup-cost to burn is negligable once you go over 10K on either format. If it's a smaller title (under 10K sales) blu-ray is the only format which makes sense.
If your movie is very Niche market and you want to loose money goto HD-DVD exclusivley you will sell half the number of disks and the setup-cost+ production costs be more than the sales profits.
So Any small Hi def producer would either do Blu-ray exclusivley or at least support both if they want to make $. !
In terms of price to consumers ie me Blu-ray is not much different to DVD but you get 1080p (cinema quality) resolution, and several hours of extras all on one disk !.
