I am an Insomiac.  Have been for about 15 years now.  When I know I have to sleep before something important, I pull an all nighter the day before and keep myself awake until the following evening.  Go to sleep 10 hours before you must be up (just incase) and I end up sleeping and feel great on those very important days that I have to sleep.

If you cannot do this, there is a type of medication that I would recommend.  It is not a sleeping pill (no Ambien or Benedryl), what it does is help calm the mind.  It basically will make your mind wind down (so you stop thinking) allowing you to sleep.   Im away for the weekend, but when Im back home Ill give you the name if you want.
