By this time PS3 will be leading the HD sales chart and Microsoft will be pushed to push out new technology so they don't fall back. I believe MS cannot afford to go second, Sony can as they are the dominant gaming brand. Wii doesn't impact either market, as Sony and MS really don't expect to get the casual gamers to their system. Sony more so doesn't care, as they sold more than 120M PS2's and they know how many people will eventually pick up a PS3. MS has been watching 360 sales go downhill, and watch the PS3's just climb year by year. If anyone feels the heat first to abandon their previous system, it will surely be Microsoft. |
Just wanted to let you know that you are the biggest idiot in this thread;
You said that the PS2 sold more than 120M and you expect the PS3 to sell similar? Well that's dead wrong mate, because the reason the PS2 sold so many units was because of the casual gamers you seem to hate or call irrelevant. The genius behind the Wii is that it has made people upgrade from the PS2 and not go to the PS3 or XBOX 360 like Sony and Microsoft were expecting, but head to Nintendo because the new fun games that appealed to them were on the Wii.
Also please tell me how the Wii doesn't effect Sony's and Microsoft's business?
Publishers are going to support the console with the highest userbase. They didn't get in on the Wii early enough but just look at the 3DS, everyone is jumping on it with games like Saints Row, Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts all being developed for it (some with the HD development teams), Why? Because the DS is a brand they can bank on. The Wii is now a brand they can bank on and so you can expect many publishers to jump ship to the Wii 2 next generation, which will impact both Sony and Microsoft.
It's also clear that Sony and Microsoft see the Wii effecting their business because they're releasing motion controllers. You seem to think they're releasing them just because they can? Did you watch the E3 press conferences? They were the headline of both companies E3's. They have full marketing campaigns behind them and Microsoft have said that they launch of Kinect will feel like the launch of a new console. Seems pretty important don't you think?
Wii is the PS2 of this generation, the sooner you accept that the better.. PS3 may be your favorite system, it's currently my favorite system, but you aren't the world.
