I have a friend working for a big publisher (can't tell which one), and he told me that you can use Kinect while seated, but it will only track your hands not your lower body so no speed up or brake with your feet and without a way to accelerate or brake the game has to control the speed for you, also you have to start standing so it recognizes your body, then you can sit down.
