Just look at the Wii. Outside of Nintendo's titles, the content has been pretty sparse for quite awhile, and that's for the fastest selling console of all time! The idea that Kinect might have little software support is not that surprising given Microsoft's reliance on third parties, a group not known for taking risks and thinking outside of the box. If they had emulated the Wii's control scheme, they could've at least relied on Wii ports ala Move while possibly convincing more devs to jump in on motion controls, but with the way things currently stand, Microsoft will be hard pressed to garner any significant third party support unless the device somehow becomes an amazing success. This puts Microsoft in a bit of a catch-22, thanks to their somewhat weak first party offerings. They can't gain support without being successful, but, given their situation, they'll be hard pressed to be successful with little support. But once again, even incredible success doesn't guarantee substantial support if developers are afraid to stray from the norm and work with new control schemes. |
that is were multiple platforms come in. yeah sure that isn't entirely good news for Microsoft but it is for the control system. the developer would probably be happy supporting the control system if they can release it for the PS move as well. there is already a rumour that harmonix is thinking about making a dance central port. sure the games wont be exclusive to kinect but it would at least allow developers more comfort about straying from the normal. once and if it gets on its feet then the support should start to arrive.
correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).
