Of course it does, I trust them when they say it's their best Halo game ever (and they have backed this up, it isn't just a random shallow quote) if it scores rather high it'll sway those who were dissapointed with ODST and those bored with the Halo franchise.

Going on that quote I agree with you, but if it is the best Halo game they've made, and if it does score amazingly and get amazing word of mouth, of course it'll gain some extra sales from that.
