I feel as though a lot of internet reviewers have lost the plot with games like these.
They always focus on the bad parts and score down accordingly due to that... if it's not a AAA high quality game that they are anticipating before it comes out then they score it down.
I agree with you, Mario and Sonic is a fantastic game... I can't believe how good the archery is, that is almost worth a purchase for that alone... archery kicks arse.
I feel the same way about Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles... if you are a Resident Evil fan you HAVE to buy this game... it's brilliant and an easy and relaxing way to play through the RE games... and CO-OP is out of this world.
