This part of the game actually works, you're given a variety of weapons and tools to your arsenal to try out any tactical option to complete mission effectively. You can be creative an cause distractions with the game's impressive fire propagation, then lure most of them to a explosive barrel.

Yeah I agree with that. That's one of the main reason why I loved Far Cry 2. You just have so much freedom and the world map was very well crafted with beautiful scenery. I would have love to see animals though lol

There are animals, but very few. They've only placed herbivores, Ubisoft should've added a lot of carnivores, would've made the combat a lot more interesting.
