Hey guys, theprof00 here.
I've been playing eve online for a year now with two accounts and soon to be three. I'm part of a small corporation (space guild) that has ties to some of the biggest corps, and we do everything from pvp to carebear stuff (missions, mining, production)
What is really interesting about eve is that every single thing in the game comes from players. Starting from the basics, ore and elements were mined from a planet or asteroid by a player. That player then sells the ore to someone else or keeps it. The ore is refined by the owner into minerals and other elements.
On the other side of the region, a player will be doing missions killing pirates and using special skills to salvage the wrecks, pulling out wiring and broken circuit boards from the dead ships.
Combined, a player takes those circuits and wires, along with minerals and creates other high quality items for sale on the market. Everything is player oriented. Everything traded and sold on the market started at the base level of mining, fighting, and resource gathering, and goes through various player-production channels to make it through to the end-user.
This is only possible because of the userbase and the fact that there is only one server that holds all players in one universe.

If you'd like to check the game out with a free 21-day trial and free download, and a guild, and personal help from yours truly and some 1st-day vets, lemme know.
This isn't an ad. I would like to play with some of my fellow vgc posters, and unlike WoW, we don't have to worry about which servers such and such member plays on. We are always there.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and you can also pay for your subscription by buying pilot-license-extensions (PLEXs) with in-game money. I pay off my subscription for all three characters with this method. With a good corp to teach you, you can pay off your first subscribed month like this.
