What is it that people have against Sonic games?

Because Sonic 1 and 2 rocked so hard and then you got Sonic 3, we lived with it. Sonic and Knuckles.. fine knuckles is kinda cool. Then we got like 50 other sidekicks and crappy 3-d games and the old fans got sick of it. I'm glad Sonic is in Smash Bros so I can go online and Beat his @$$ as Kid Icarus. Not only that but it shows a relationship between SEGA and Nintendo that 15 years ago would have made my head literally explode.(Anybody remember the commercials? "SEGA does what Nintendon't") I really want to like Sonic even to date because I loved the first two games but SEGAs making it really difficult

Sonic 1 and 2 were awesome. Sonic 3 was neat since it let you choose your character.

Sonic and Knuckles was probably the single coolest game on the Sega Genesis.  Not only could you play as a totally new awesome character but you could connect the game to all the other Sonic games to play them as Knuckles? Holy %@#$! There was a level of awesome in the very thought of that unparalleled at the time.

Plus the old Sonic games had some of the best music around for any console game that wasn't developed by Square Soft or Nintendo. Who remembers the Flying Battery music? Sky Sanctuary? Lava Reef?
