Very few?

More like 24% of the World has upgraded to HD TV.

WoW... Now if we can just get all of the 3rd world countries to jump ship we can possibly have 98% by the end of 2008!!! Or we can just convince the Chinese and India governments to make HDTV's required by law in 2008!!! Thats like 37% Percent right there!!! lawl

In reality the US is not even being forced to upgrade to HDTV - broadcast signals are switching to ASTC (Digital) which will be in an HD format, however since TV's are now being sold in SDTV format with built-in ASTC (Digital) tuners, it is possible to continue to have TV in the standard definition we've had for so long, simply with more channels. The only thing that will push HDTV's outside of the myth that you will need an HDTV to watch TV after Feb 17th, 2009 are retailers and the price. Eventually flat screen HDTV's will be so low on price it will not make sense anymore to even sell SDTV's , however as of now you can pick up a new standard def TV (that's been manufactured on or after March 07 (I believe it's march 07) and continue to use it for a few decades if it lasts that long.
