The PS3 can use an external USB hard drive.
The unfortunate part of it is that you have to have it in FAT32 format. Windows won't format large FAT32 disks because Microsoft are a bunch of Nazi Monopolistic bastards... sorry, maybe that was over the top... but there are tools that will format FAT32 drives over 32GB (Windows limit.) FAT32 over 32GB (up to 2TB theoretically) can be formatted using a bunch of tools on the net. One of which is here: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm
I have a 200GB HD on my 20GB PS3 but I'm using the external SATA adapter and running it in an external enclosure. I'm using it as my main drive (the PS3 formats new disks found on the main SATA connection) and it's working great (8MB cache, 7200RPM)
It seems the mods need help with this forum. I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.
