1. Yep, later in the game. Dont worry, the possibilities are numerous but they unlock quite gradually

2. Kind of. It's more a point system on a grid called crystalium.

3. Keep them, you can level up your weapons and items with it and god knows you will need loads of items and money to get the platinium !!! There's some in which description says "sell for a good price in shop", you can sell these.
