Sony's first party is good, but Nintendo's is in a whole different league. I'm not saying a new Sony handheld / console wouldn't do well, but I definitely don't see why people assume they have any chance at outdoing Nintendo just by "not screwing up."
Why would Nintendo need something unique to remain leader? I don't understand that mentality. Nintendo has the strongest first party by far, and if they come into a gen with AAA third party support (which they virtually had none of in the west this gen), it'd be no contest. It's the third party games that keep the Sony / MS consoles afloat, and if that differential is removed, well...
It's Sony / MS that need to do something unique to overcome the current leader. I wouldn't say that's impossible, but the odds are really against them.
