You didn't need this game. I offer you 7000 hours of Civilization IV bliss and you turn around and buy this crap?!

I've never played Civilization IV, though I have a niggling feeling I should....

Anyway, I am trying to convince my brother to get this because reviews have made it very clear that this is not my game. I hate things which are hard, especially as I take the mentality that it is never my fault and always the games fault and if I take that mindset, it is clear that I will just get pissed off at the game

Well you can get it on Steam for pretty cheap at the moment. Or alternatively you can jump right in with Civ 5. I don't think it will be any harder to start there, actually probably easier as they are reworking the interface somewhat. Sept 24 is when my life officially ends.. for a while.

but yeah, it was just a little too anal for my taste too. I have a line in the sand between 'brutal but fair' and 'obscene'. Ninja Gaiden 2 was on the brutal but fair side and Demons Souls was more on the obscene side. I've played wayy too many games in my life to really want to bother with the latter, but the former is always a welcome change of pace. Anyway difficulty is just something which a lot of games do badly, I find its a mark of developer excellence to be about to ensure a consistant/desired level of difficulty throughout.

Tease.
