I hate when people say it was founded on Christianity. It was founded on the idea that anyone can believe what they want to. I can believe that the earth is flat and I won't get punished like in England during the 1600s if you did not like the Anglican Church. Where in Christianity/the Bible does it say that anyone can believe what they want? The Bible is actually more to the contrary in that it wants people to believe in what the Bible says regardless of evidence or reason. Freedom of religion/ideas is one greatest achievements in world history. Now this is where it gets interesting. When is it okay to accept my ideas over facts? In the education level..NEVER. If your beliefs contradict facts/evidence, then those beliefs should not be taught. You can still believe in those beliefs, but it's wrong to force others to believe an idea that is contrary to all the evidence in education or in a place that is a fortress of knowledge and sense.
