When in the generation do you buy your consoles?

I usually pick up my console of choice around the time it's launched, to show my un-dying support :P, then about 3-4 years down I'll pick up another, however, my last 2 consoles were the Playstation and the PS2, and well.. I kinda never ran out of games to play ._.; my roomates usually pick up something though :P My roomate has owned a 360 from launch.
